Presentation of Macedonian Quality Wines at the
“ProWein” Trade Fair
With
support from USAID’s AgBiz Program three
Macedonian wineries - Bovin, Skovin and Popova
Kula – successfully exhibited at the most
important European wine show. Exhibitors from
more than 40 countries participated in the
ProWein International Trade Fair held in
Dusseldorf Germany. During the three day fair
more than 33,000 wine producers, importers,
traders, experts and admirers exchanged
information and marketed their wines and wine
associated products at this huge international
event.
Everybody, including wine experts, who had an
opportunity to sample Bovin, Skovin and Popova
Kula products were surprised by the high quality
and sophistication of these Macedonian wines.
They were found to be at least as good as wines
having the highest sales in the premium
category. Special interest was shown in “Vranec,”
a variety that can produce an outstanding wine,
and provides something new to even to the most
demanding wine connoisseurs. This is a result of
the very serous approach of the three wineries
to implementing world standards and technologies
in the production of their quality wines.
Mr. Jani Bogevski, representing Bovin, stated
“Our experience participating in ProWein has
confirmed that we produce very competitive
quality wine. All visitors to our booth,
including importers, distributers, owners of
restaurants and journalist from eminent
magazines such as “Decanter” were very
complimentary about our Macedonian wines, which
means they are very competitive in terms of
quality with the other well-known wines.“
Ms. Marija Miteva, Skovin’s representative found
ProWein a valuable resource for introducing
Skovin’s new labels and packaging. “This was an
exceptional opportunity to see the extent to
which the wine industry has developed in terms
of technology and design, as well as understand
trends in wine marketing.”
And Igor Delovski, representative of Popova Kula
stated ”This was an important opportunity to
better understand EU markets, to sample a
variety of wines, and to be introduced to
different approaches for wine marketing. We
established a number of contacts which we hope
to develop into sales opportunities.”
All three participants credited AgBiz with
providing them significant support to make their
presentations at ProWein so impressive and their
fair exhibition so successful.
Representatives from Austria, Chile, Argentina
and South Africa had impressive presentations at
ProWein, illustrating how to build the
reputation of a country of origin and its wines,
and conquer a significant share of the saturated
world wine market. Several wine associations
from Germany and consortiums from Italy were
well represented at ProWein, confirming the
importance of wineries from a given country
forming an association and presenting a common
approach to foreign markets - something the
Macedonian wine industry lacks.
USAID’s AgBiz Program will help the exhibiting
Macedonian wineries to capitalize on both their
learning and sales experience at ProWein, and
will continue to support effective presentations
of Macedonian quality wines, as well as work
toward increasing exports of bottled wine to
regional and the European markets.
